Netflix UK commits to Treason drama from Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman

Netflix in the UK has greenlit a six-part spy drama created and written by Oscar-nominated British screenwriter Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies).

Treason has been commissioned by Netflix UK’s VP of series, Anne Mensah. It tells the story of an MI6 agent whose life becomes complicated when a Russian spy with whom he shares a complicated past shows up.

The project stars Olga Kurylenko, Oona Chaplin and Charlie Cox and is being produced through Charman’s Binocular Productions banner.

Charman is executive producing alongside Foz Allan and Binocular Productions head of drama Valery Ryan. Louise Hooper, whose recent directorial credits include Netflix’s The Witcher and ITV’s Flesh & Blood, will direct.

Treason is the second project from Charman and Netflix after the streamer greenlit his feature directorial debut, The Mothership. The sci-fi project, filmed earlier this year, stars Halle Berry and is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2022.

The news follows a slew of UK scripted commissions announced by Mensah and her team at C21’s recent Content London event.
