Streamer Netflix takes YouTube counselling series Blue Therapy global

Netflix has commissioned its own version of counselling series Blue Therapy

US-based streaming service Netflix has commissioned its own version of counselling series Blue Therapy for its global audience.

The unscripted series has been commissioned by the Netflix UK team for international and is being produced by Osun Media, which was launched last year by actor, film producer and media entrepreneur Luti Fagbenle.

The show started life as a YouTube series on the TrendCntrl channel. One season of a UK adaptation was commissioned by public broadcaster Channel 4 and aired six episodes on its youth-skewing E4 network last year titled In Love & Toxic: Blue Therapy.

The format’s creator Andy Amadi is attached to the Netflix version as showrunner.

Netflix announced via social media this morning it was beginning casting for six diverse couples who will be guided by a seasoned expert in an attempt to tackle ongoing issues in their relationship.

Covering a variety of issues in intimate detail, the couples also seek guidance from their closest friends and families. At the end of the hard-hitting therapy sessions, the couples are faced with the ultimate question: will they find their way back to each other or end the relationship for good?

Series producer is Vanessa Van-Yeboah and exec producers are Fagbenle and Anna Edwinson

Fagbenle, Osun Group founder, said: “This commission marks a significant milestone for Osun Group as we embark on delivering high-quality, engaging content to a global audience, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Netflix.

“We’re proud to build on Blue Therapy’s passionate grassroots fanbase, following its breakout success on TrendCntrl’s YouTube channel, where it racked up millions of views per episode and was dubbed the ‘most explosive reality series of the year.’

“When we launched Osun Group, our vision was to create a platform for diverse talent to share their stories, and Blue Therapy is a perfect example of that vision in action. With showrunner and creator Andy Amadi at the helm, we’re eager to begin production on this exciting project and continue this incredible journey.”
