Netflix has announced its second major boxing event, with Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor set to headline an event at Madison Square Garden on July 11.

The contest is a rematch of the fight that took place as the joint main event when Jake Paul took on Mike Tyson in November.

That event, which marked Netflix’s first foray into live combat sports, proved to be a huge ratings success. The streaming giant said it garnered 65 million concurrent streams, with 38 million of those in the US.

Overall, Netflix said the fight drew an estimated average minute audience of 108 million live viewers globally. More recently, data revealed it was Netflix’s seventh most-watched TV programme in the second half of 2024.

Despite some technical glitches, the Tyson-Paul event was seen as a major demonstration of Netflix’s ability to draw vast audiences to live programming, giving its already soaring stock price another boost.

Netflix also announced on Thursday that it has handed a swift season-two renewal to Running Point, the basketball comedy series co-created and executive produced by Mindy Kaling. Since debuting earlier this week, the 10-episode first season has racked up 9.3 million views, according to Netflix.

Running Point is produced by Kaling International in association with Warner Bros Television, where Kaling has an overall deal. It stars Kate Hudson as a woman who is appointed president of a storied basketball franchise and her family business after a scandal forces her brother to resign.
