Netflix preps Ghostbusters animated series from Afterlife duo Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan

US-based streamer Netflix is developing an animated series based on the Ghostbusters franchise, produced by Sony Pictures Animation in conjunction with Ghost Corps.

Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who wrote the latest Ghostbusters movie instalment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, are creating the new series and are both on board as executive producers. Plot details are being kept under wraps and there is no one else currently attached to the project.

The series would mark the third animated Ghostbusters show, following The Real Ghostbusters, which was commissioned by ABC in 1986, and Extreme Ghostbusters, which ran on the Bohbot Kids Network from 1997.

Ghost Corps was formed in 2015 by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Columbia Pictures to create a Ghostbusters cinematic universe and expand the brand into films, series and merchandise

Ghostbusters premiered in 1984 and was directed and produced by Reitman’s father, Ivan Reitman, and starred Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray as three parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City.
