Netflix preparing six more K-romance dramas to launch in second half of 2023

Destined With You is among the next half-dozen K-romance series coming to Netflix

Netflix is readying six Korean romantic dramas for launch over the next five months to meet continued strong demand for K-romance among its global subscriber base.

According to the streamer, global viewership of its K-romance titles tripled between 2018 and 2022.

In 2022 alone, more than 90% of this viewing came from outside South Korea, with viewers in the US, Europe and South America streaming series such as Crash Landing on You, Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Business Proposal.

Over the next five months, Netflix will launch See You in My 19th Life (June 17), King the Land (June 17), Behind Your Touch (date TBC), Destined With You (TBC), A Time Called You (third quarter of 2023) and Doona! (Q4 2023).

This year marks Netflix’s biggest push yet into Korean dramas, films and unscripted shows as more and more titles from the country feature in its Global Top 10 list.

Don Kang, VP of content for Netflix in Korea, said: “We’re genuinely humbled by how our emotive Korean shows have found a home in the hearts of global audiences through Netflix, stretching from the US, Europe, South America and beyond.

“Our stories touch on the universal aspects of life – love, heartbreak and tenderness – while also providing a peek into the unique facets of Korean culture. Netflix’s commitment to forging this profound global connection is something we’re truly excited about.”

Wooyeon Yang, director of content for Netflix in Korea, added: “The crafting of the hallmark slow-burning intensity of K-romances, along with their wholesome appeal, shapes an undeniably endearing genre that strikes a chord with global viewers.”
