Netflix orders workplace series from Gen Z comedy creator group American High

Minimum Wage is based on a shortform series from American High

Netflix is continuing to court talent from the creator ecosystem with the greenlighting of a new workplace comedy from Gen Z comedy group American High.

The new project, Minimum Wage, is based on American High’s shortform series of the same name, which has garnered more than 30 million views across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram since launching a couple of years ago.

Netflix has ordered 28 episodes of Minimum Wage, each of unspecified length, with the project set to premiere later this year.

The Netflix series will star Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho and Tommy Armstrong. It is produced by American High, with Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps serving as showrunners, writers and exec producers. Axelle Azoulay is also an exec producer.

Minimum Wage follows an overwhelmed group of teenagers struggling to run a local pizzeria while juggling school, a manic boss and their minimum-wage salaries.

In total, American High’s videos have racked up more than seven billion views across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat since launching in 2022.
