Netflix orders stranger-than-fiction doc Con Mum from The Trouble with Kanye producer Forest

Con Mum centres on pastry chef Graham Hornigold
Netflix has commissioned stranger-than-fiction feature documentary from UK indie prodco Forest (The Trouble with Kanye) about a top UK chef who was approached by a woman claiming to be his multi-millionaire long-lost mother.
Directed by filmmaker Nick Green and produced by Harry Harris, Con Mum tells how Michelin-starred TV pastry chef Graham Hornigold, co-founder of Longboys Doughnuts, was contacted in 2020 by a businesswoman called Dionne who said he was her son.
Claiming to be rich and with just months left to live, she promised Hornigold would inherit her millions. But was she telling the truth?
Con Mum was commissioned by Kate Townsend, director of documentary features, and Zainab Ali Khan, original documentaries at Netflix. It will be available to stream from March 25.
Jez Lee, co-founder and executive producer at Forest, said: “Con Mum is an unbelievable, never-told-before tale of love and loss. The formidable original journalism will have viewers on the very edge of their seat.”
In other Netflix news, the global streamer has announced three new shows from Kill Tony, the US live podcast stand-up comedy variety show created and hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe.
Like the weekly YouTube streams on which they are based, the shows will feature a mix of established comedians and surprise celebrity guests, alongside stand-up sets from aspiring comedians. Hinchcliffe and his panel of comics then give their trademark brutal feedback on the performances.
The first special will film at The Comedy Mothership in Austin, Texas, and premiere on Netflix on April 7.
Kill Tony debuted on YouTube in 2013, as well as being available on Spotify and other online platforms.
In addition to the three specials, the deal with Netflix also includes a 1×60′ stand-up special from Hinchcliffe, who caused controversy at a Trump rally last year for making disparaging comments about Puerto Rico.
