Netflix orders Kong, Tomb Raider anime

Square Enix’s Tomb Raider

Netflix has ordered two anime series from Legendary Television based on 2017 film Kong: Skull Island and Square Enix’s Tomb Raider video game franchise.

The pair are already producing the previously announced anime series Pacific Rim: The Black, based on Legendary’s sci-fi/monster franchise.

Billed as a new chapter in Legendary’s ‘Monsterverse’ franchise, animated adventure series Skull Island follows shipwrecked characters desperate to escape the island home of prehistoric monsters, including Kong.

The executive producers include Brian Duffield (Underwater, The Babysitter), who will write and executive produce, and Jacob Robinson under his company Tractor Pants. It will be produced by Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania, Blood of Zeus).

Tomb Raider picks up after the events of the Tomb Raider video game reboot trilogy and follows Lara Croft on her latest adventure. Netflix said the anime series is not based on the recent films but on the video game series.

The executive producers include Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Red Sonja), who will write and executive produce; dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Stephan Bugaj and Howard Bliss; and Robinson, again under his company Tractor Pants.
