Netflix orders 3D Asterix series

Alain Chabat previously directed 2002 film Asterix: Mission Cléopâtre

Global streamer Netflix is partnering with French publisher Hachette’s Les Editions Albert René to produce a new 3D animated series based on the iconic Asterix comic books.

The limited series will be made in France and will launch exclusively on Netflix in 2023 in more than 190 territories. It will be adapted from one of the franchise’s classic comics, Asterix & the Big Fight.

French director and playwright Alain Chabat, who directed the 2002 Asterix feature film Mission Cléopâtre, will direct the series, with Alain Goldman producing.

Created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, Asterix first appeared on the comic book scene in 1959 and 38 volumes have since been published, in addition to various kids’ animated TV series and films.
