Netflix halts filming on Mexican drama after two actors killed, six injured in car accident

Mexican original The Chosen One is based on a comic-book series

Netflix has halted production on Mexican original series The Chosen One after two actors were killed and six cast and crew members injured in a car accident as they were being transported to a local airport in the city of Mulegé.

According to local officials and reports, actors Raymundo Garduno and Juan Francisco Aguilar died when the van transporting them flipped on a desert road near Mulegé on the Baja California Sur peninsula.

The off-set incident, which took place during the show’s production cycle, happened on June 16. Filming had been taking place in the city of Santa Rosalia.

The six injured, two actors and four crew members, are said to be in a stable condition.

Production company Redrum has temporarily paused production on the show. At press time it was unclear when production might resume.

The new series, based on a comic-book series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, follows a 12-year-old boy who learns he is the second coming of Jesus Christ and is destined to save humankind. Netflix has another, unrelated series called The Chosen One.
