The pact, which marks the first time a streamer has held the rights to the women’s soccer tournament in Canada, comes after Netflix previously picked up the exclusive US rights to the tournament in both 2027 and 2031.

Netflix has already commissioned several titles set in the world of soccer, including Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team, Captains of the World, Neymar: The Perfect Chaos, Beckham, Sunderland ’Til I Die, Boca Juniors Confidential and upcoming documentaries on José Mourinho and Vinícius Júnior.

The deal also expands Netflix’s live sports footprint, after it recently aired the third boxing match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. It is also streaming the upcoming boxing match between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford, as well as two more Christmas Day NFL games and its weekly airings of WWE’s Monday Night Raw.

“We are thrilled that Netflix will be FIFA’s exclusive partner in Canada for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. With under two years to go until the first match in Brazil, we are hard at work on planning and aim to give fans unparalleled access to the most prestigious competition in women’s football,” said Netflix’s VP of sports, Gabe Spitzer.

Romy Gai, FIFA chief business officer, added: “Following the landmark agreement between FIFA and Netflix in the United States relating to the exclusive rights to the 2027 and 2031 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, we are pleased to extend the footprint of our partnership with Netflix to Canada.”
