Netflix gets interactive with Bear Grylls

You vs Wild will allow viewers to guide the actions of Bear Grylls

Netflix is returning to interactive programming, this time with an adventure series that allows viewers to choose the actions of survival expert Bear Grylls.

You vs Wild will allow viewers to choose what the adventurer eats, encounters and experiences in the show, which is being produced by Propagate-backed Electus with Bear Grylls Ventures.

Described as an “interactive, family-friendly adventure series,” the show will take viewers into jungles, mountains, deserts and forests as they are given the choice in each episode to guide him through the show. The eight-parter is set to debut on April 10.

“I’m so proud to deliver this first-of-its-kind live-action interactive series, really giving viewers an all-access pass to explore the world and its landscapes in my boots,” said Grylls.

Executive producers include Grylls, Chris Grant, Drew Buckley, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Rob Buchta and Delbert Shoopman. The director is Ben Simms.

Netflix has previously experimented with interactive episodes on drama series Black Mirror and children’s series The Adventure of Puss in Boots.

Late last year Propagate, the A+E Networks-backed production company founded by Ben Silverman and Howard T Owens, completed a purchase of Silverman’s former company Electus. https://www.c21media.net/propagate-acquires-electus-buys-into-artists-first/

In related news, Netflix has commissioned a 10-part drama inspired by a best selling manga series from Ben Dunn, to be produced by Canadian production company Reality Distortion Field (RDF).

Warrior Nun (10×60’) is currently being shot in Malaga and tells the story of a 19-year old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artefact embedded in her back.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, this marks RDF’s first international production from a growing slate of content catering to a global audience.

From the RDF team, co-founders Simon Barry and Stephen Hegyes are executive producers. RDF’s head of production, Zack Tucker Gangnes, is producing and David Turko serves as head of development for RDF.
