Netflix finds Lost Pirate Kingdom

The Lost Pirate Kingdom uses hyper-dynamic animation

Global SVoD platform Netflix has added factual series The Lost Pirate Kingdom to its international offering.

The coproduction from UK prodco World Media Rights (WMR) and ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE), the commercial subsidiary of German broadcaster ZDF, will be available worldwide as a Netflix Original from Monday March 15.

ZDFE holds a 36.1% stake in WMR and will distribute the series outside of Netflix territories.

The series tells the story of the pirate republic of Nassau, made up of former British privateers who became outlawed by the crown.

It is one of the first factual series to employ hyper-dynamic animation, a technique used to project images on to objects rather than a green screen. The technology is used to recreate the island republic as well as fleets of ships.

Exec producers for the series are WMR’s Alan Griffiths, David McNab and Eamon Hardy.
