Netflix, Cartoonito acquire Guru toon

MIPTV: Turner Broadcasting System’s Cartoonito in Italy and Netflix in Latin America have picked up new seasons of Guru Studio’s preschool animated show Justin Time.

Cartoonito has acquired free TV rights for the first two seasons of the show, which will air three times daily.

Mary Bredin, VP of Guru Studio, said the deal with a free TV network was “essential” for the company’s “lateral growth into licensing on an international scale.”

Meanwhile, Netflix in Latin America has picked up SVoD rights to the second season of the show, which will be available in Spanish and Portuguese from this summer. Netflix launched the first season in Latin America last summer and also holds the SVoD rights to all 52 episodes of the show in the US and the UK.

The show is aimed at three- to six-year-olds and follows the adventures of Justin and his imaginary pals as they set off on fantastical adventures in time around the world. It recently won the award for Best Preschool Programme/Series at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.
