Netflix captures Elephant Outlaw

Netflix has acquired a feature documentary film that tells the infamous true story of an elephant that went on a deadly rampage.

Tyke Elephant Outlaw tells the story of a circus elephant that killed her trainer in front of thousands of horrified spectators in Honolulu in 1994, before being killed a hail of gunfire.

The film will be released in the US tomorrow and will be followed with an international release in August 2016.

Tyke Elephant Outlaw has screened at festivals across the US, UK and Australia and has already aired on the BBC Storyville strand and CBC’s The Passionate Eye in Canada. It’s also due to play on DRTV in Denmark.

Australian documentary filmmakers Susan Lambert and Stefan Moore directed and produced the film, which was coproduced by Megan McMurchy. Tyke was produced with the financial assistance of Screen Australia, Screen NSW and Voiceless. It is distributed by ABC Commercial and Dogwoof.
