Netflix alum joins Imagine

Imagine Entertainment, the US studio from Hollywood heavyweights Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, has hired a former Netflix director of international originals and acquisitions.

Swati Shetty

Swati Shetty, who joined Netflix in LA in 2016 having previously held various roles at companies in India, will now serve as executive VP of international content at Imagine. She announced her exit from the streamer last December.

Prior to joining Netflix, Shetty was Balaji Telefilms’ motion pictures president and the founder of Samosa Stories Entertainment.

Her other previous roles include executive director of Walt Disney International Productions India and director of India for Disney ABC International TV.

Imagine, which has been involved in shows such as Empire, Arrested Development, Genius and Mars, launched a kids’ and family division earlier this year, led by former Universal Pictures exec Stephanie Sperber. It has also invested in companies such as Sanjay Sharma’s Marginal Media, which was founded in 2017.

“Swati will oversee international opportunities for global content and collaborate with our new divisions including documentaries, kids’ and family, and Marginal Media as well as with film and TV,” said Michael Rosenberg, co-chairman at Imagine. “This role furthers our growth and expansion strategy, allowing us to compete in a global marketplace.”
