Netflix alum Augusto Rovegno among Univision streaming hires

US Hispanic broadcaster Univision has made four new leadership hires at the streaming service it is planning to launch next year, including Netflix alum Augusto Rovegno.

Pierluigi Gazzolo

Rovegno has been appointed senior VP of acquisitions and SVoD programming. He will be responsible for sourcing and acquiring content for both AVoD and SVoD tiers of Univision’s new streaming service, which will begin a global roll-out in the US and Latin America next year, as well as developing content for the platform.

Having held various roles at Netflix, including developing original Spanish-language films and acquiring and coproducing Spanish movies, he will now report to Rodrigo Mazon, executive VP & general manager, SVoD streaming.

Meanwhile, Cameron Carr has been appointed executive VP of data and insights. Carr has joined from finance comparison website NerdWallet, where he served as VP of data science and analytics. Univision hopes his experience in analytics from Facebook, PlayStation and Netflix can drive audience data intelligence for Univision’s new streamer. He will report to Rafael Urbina, executive VP for AVoD streaming.

Also reporting to Urbina is Mariela Stescobich, who joins as senior VP of marketing, user growth and retention for AVoD. Stescobich will be tasked with driving customer acquisition and retention for Univision’s current AVoD platform PrendeTV. With previous experience at US streamer Hulu, she was most recently VP of growth marketing at US network Fox and will be tasked with growing Univision’s AVoD audience.

Daniel Sanders joins Univision as senior VP of engineering in streaming, overseeing the development of the platform itself. During his career he has designed for streaming platform Crackle, Verizon’s streaming platform Uplynk, and US AVoD PlutoTV. He will report to Michael Cerda, executive VP of streaming product and engineering.

Univision is undergoing the changes after agreeing a deal to merge with Spanish network Televisa, with which it will jointly launch the AVoD and SVoD platform.

Pierluigi Gazzolo, Univision’s president and chief transformation officer, said: “I am immensely proud of the strides we have taken thus far in Univision’s streaming evolution, including building an innovative platform, engaging renowned creators and setting the foundation for what will be the largest offering of Spanish-language content globally. I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome these industry professionals who are now part of our streaming dream team, at this pivotal point in Univision’s transformation. Each of them brings a unique perspective that will strengthen our position as a global streaming leader.”
