Netflix adapts Japanese movie The Journalist

Netflix will release its series version of The Journalist next year

Netflix is adapting Japanese feature film The Journalist, released in 2019, as a TV series starring Ryoko Yonekura.

The Journalist, jointly planned and produced by Star Sands and Netflix, will be released on the global streamer in 2021.

The series will see Yonekura (Doctor X, Legal V) play a maverick newspaper reporter who strives to expose issues in modern Japanese society.

Michihito Fujii, the director of the feature film, will direct the series, which will be available exclusively on Netflix.

The movie was a hit in Japan, drawing attention by confronting Japanese political crimes and numerous scandals of recent years.

The film won awards in three major categories at the 43rd Japan Academy Awards, including best picture of the year.
