NENT enrols boarding school mystery

A Class Apart is set in the closeted world of an exclusive boarding school

Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has ordered a drama series set in a boarding school, which will be among at least 40 originals it will launch next year.

Based on an idea by Henrik Schyffert and Gustaf Skördeman, A Class Apart will launch on NENT’s streaming service Viaplay and stars Aliette Opheim, Henrik Schyffert and Valter Skarsgård.

The eight-part series will explore a hidden world of privilege, power and deadly secrets at an exclusive Swedish boarding school after a student is found dead.

The writers are Michaela Hamilton, Skördeman, Erik Eger, Anna Platt and Fredrik Agetoft, with Andrea Östlund, Erik Eger and David Berron sharing directing duties.

It is a coproduction between Jarowskij and Brommamamma in partnership with Film i Väst.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group chief content officer, said: “Boarding schools are often worlds within a world and remain one of our most enigmatic institutions. Yet as viewers of Viaplay’s latest original series will discover, they are also complex spaces where young people’s hopes, dreams and tensions play out like anywhere else – an ideal setting for compelling and sometimes unsettling drama.”

Wallestam recently told C21’s Content London On Demand event that local SVoD players like Viaplay can stand out from their global counterparts by ramping up original, local production.

Her comments came as the company gears up for the international roll-out of its streaming service and the sell-off of its UK business.
