Nelson and 3 Ball’s co-CEO Ross Weintraub have experienced two takeovers at 3 Ball, first by Eyeworks Group in 2006 and then by Warner Bros in 2014.

Nelson co-founded the company as 3 Ball Productions in 2003 with his producing partner JD Roth.

In 2006, they sold 3 Ball to Eyeworks Group, founded and run by international media executive and producer Reinout Oerlemans.

Eight years later, Warner Bros acquired Eyeworks’ international production businesses for US$273m, with the US production entity transitioning back into a fully independent company led by chairman Oerlemans.

It rebranded in January 2015 as 3 Ball Entertainment, with Nelson and Weintraub named co-CEOs. Franchises produced by 3 Ball in the US include Beauty & the Geek (The CW), Bar Rescue (SpikeTV) and The Biggest Loser (NBC).
