NBCUniversal’s Peacock takes on The Hungry Games: Alaska’s Big Bear Challenge

Ari Mark is exec producing for Ample Entertainment

NBCUniversal-owned streamer Peacock has ordered wildlife reality competition show The Hungry Games: Alaska’s Big Bear Challenge.

Coproduced by Ample Entertainment in the US and Canada’s Blue Ant Media’s Love Nature, the three-part series follows the bears of Alaska’s Katmai National Park as they bulk up for winter hibernation.

Over 150 days, the bears battle the elements to consume three million calories and gain up to 200 pounds in nature’s real-life survival show.

Unbeknown to the bears, their progress is being tracked and ranked for a television audience with narration that combines facts about bear behaviour with colour commentary from Kiwi comedian Rhys Darby.

Love Nature’s senior VP of production and development, Alison Barrat, is exec producing with James Manfull. Exec producing for Ample Entertainment are co-founders Ari Mark, Phil Lott, and David Brown.

Blue Ant Studios’ rights division is handling pre-sales internationally.
