NBCU factual head Jenny Groom departs amid unscripted shake-up

NBCUniversal’s executive VP of unscripted content Jenny Groom is exiting the company amid a factual shake-up at the US media giant.

Jenny Groom

Groom, who has been with NBCU for almost two decades, oversaw shows including America’s Got Talent, The Voice, American Ninja Warrior and Ellen’s Game of Games. She led the unscripted department alongside Rod Aissa, with Groom overseeing reality and competition series and Aissa running docuseries.

Both roles reported into Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

Groom is set to be replaced by former Warner Bros Discovery exec Corie Henson, according to a report from Deadline though the deal has not yet been finalised. NBCUniversal declined to comment.

Henson, who served as executive VP, head of unscripted programming for TBS, TNT and truTV, left the position last month.

In a note to staff, Groom said: “From starting as a page and moving up through scripted and unscripted programming, my experiences at NBCU have been invaluable. But there is no question that what I cherish the most are the people, the relationships and most importantly my incredible team.”

She added: “Change can be scary, but I believe change is also a good thing. I’m ready and excited for my next chapter and, no matter what the future brings, I will always be rooting for the success of my NBCUniversal family.”
