NBC, Silverman board Slip ‘N Slide

US broadcast network NBC has teamed up with Ben Silverman’s Propagate prodco for a competition gameshow based on Slip ‘N Slide, the children’s toy first released in the 1960s.

Titled Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide, the series takes the spirit of the classic outdoor slide and transforms it into a real-life water park full of gigantic slippery rides with the chance to take home a big cash prize.

Produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Propagate and Critical Content, the show will be hosted by Saturday Night Live alum, comedian and actor Bobby Moynihan, and comedian, actor and writer Ron Funches.

The news comes after Critical teamed with US toy company Wham-O last October to develop live-action TV programming based on the latter company’s portfolio of toy brands, which include the Frisbee Disc, the Hula Hoop, the Hacky Sack and Slip ‘N Slide.

The executive producers of Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide are Silverman, Howard T Owens, Gregory Lipstone and Kevin Healey for Propagate, alongside Tom Forman, Jenny Daly, Todd Richards, Bruce Kaufman, Shye Sutherland Sharp, Tina Nicotera Bachmann and Keith Geller.

Jenny Groom, exec VP of unscripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said: “NBC is proud to be the home of some of the biggest and most outrageous physical competition shows and we’re thrilled to add this larger-than-life version of the classic backyard game to our summer line-up.”
