NBC revives sci-fi classic

Kenneth Johnson, the man behind the classic sci-fi miniseries V, has been given the go-ahead to start production on another sequel, entitled V: The Second Generation.

Johnson will write, direct and executive produce the three-hour telefilm follow-up to the 1983 mini for US network NBC.

The cult classic original, a futuristic allegory of the Nazi take-over of Germany, portrayed seemingly friendly aliens who came to Earth to solve the world's problems, only to eat its population.

The original Warner Bros miniseries launched a ratings-success second telefilm in 1984, V: The Final Battle and an unsuccessful weekly series, V: The Series, which was cancelled by NBC after 19 episodes.
