NBC News president Noah Oppenheim steps down, transitions to producing role

NBC News president Noah Oppenheim is stepping down from the role and transitioning into a TV and film production deal with NBCUniversal.

In his new capacity, Oppenheim, who led the news network for almost six years, will develop scripts and longform productions in partnership with NBCUniversal.

Outside of his news leadership position, Oppenheim is a screenwriter and producer whose credits include 2016 feature film Jackie, about former first lady of the US Jacqueline Kennedy. He also co-wrote the 2014 sci-fi action thriller The Maze Runner.

During his time as NBC News president, Oppenheim spearheaded the launch of NBC News Studios, a news division dedicated to premium longform content.

With Oppenheim stepping down, NBC News has reorganised its top team, with Rebecca Blumenstein being named president, editorial. Blumenstein joins from The New York Times, where she served as deputy managing editor since 2017.

In addition, NBC News named Libby Leist executive VP of Today and Lifestyle, and Janelle Rodriguez executive VP of NBC News Now.
