NBC, J-Lo return to World of Dance

World of Dance is a ratings success

US network NBC has ordered a second season of its fledgling Jennifer Lopez-backed competition series World of Dance.

The show sees dancers, who are picked from qualifying events around the US and from thousands of online submissions, divided into three groups. Contestants in the under-16, over-16 and teams divisions then compete to get to the live studio stage, with the winner receiving a prize of US$1m.

Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions produces with NBC and Universal Television Alternative Studios, which was launched last year.

The series has enjoyed buoyant ratings and is second among summer entertainment shows only to NBC stablemate America’s Got Talent. Lopez said it had “resonated with audiences and we are able to put dancers on the pedestal they deserve.”
