NBC developing Wordle for TV with Jimmy Fallon producing, pilot filming in UK

US broadcaster NBC is developing an adaptation of the popular New York Times word game Wordle, with Jimmy Fallon producing through his Electric Hot Dog banner.

A pilot is currently in production in the UK, with Savannah Guthrie, presenter of the NBC morning show Today, hosting the project.

Universal Television Alternative Studio, part of NBCUniversal, is working on the project, which is based on the game in which players make six attempts to guess a five-letter word and receive colour-coded feedback after each try.

It is unclear how the format would work in the context of a television adaption. NBC has not commented on the in-development project.

News of the pilot comes three years after the New York Times acquired Wordle for an undisclosed sum, although reports suggested the deal was worth in the “low-seven figures.”
