NBC commissions UTAS, Loud Minds dinosaur event series Surviving Earth

Surviving Earth will stream on Peacock after premiering on NBC

US broadcast network NBC has handed an eight-episode commission to prehistoric event series Surviving Earth.

Coproduced by Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS) and UK-based producer Loud Minds, the project will examine how the dinosaurs survived and thrived amid cataclysmic events and looks at the lessons that can be learned from mass extinctions.

Each of the hour-long episodes will stream on Peacock in the US the day after premiering on NBC. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

“This epic event series promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen before, with state-of-the-art technology recreating an immersive view of prehistoric earth,” said Rod Aissa, executive VP of unscripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

Loud Minds was launched by creative director Tim Haines, whose credits include Walking with Dinosaurs (BBC/Discovery) and its sequel Walking with Beasts, as well as the drama series Primeval.

UTAS, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces projects including Dancing With Myself hosted by Shakira, Nick Jonas and Liza Koshy; American Song Contest fronted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson; and Capital One College Bowl hosted by Peyton Manning.
