NBC cancels Deception, passes on pilots

US network NBC has cancelled Deception and passed on seven pilots, including its own version of Hatfields & McCoys, ahead of its upfront next week.

The first season of mystery drama Deception, focusing on a detective who investigates the death of her estranged best friend, finished in March with just over a million viewers tuning in to the last episode.

The show’s star, Meagan Good, confirmed to her Twitter followers that NBC had decided not to renew the series.

Deadline also reports that the network has passed on seven of its pilots ahead of its upfront presentation next week.

That includes its own version of historical family feud drama Hatfields & McCoys, commissioned from ABC Studios in the wake of the ratings smash of the same name on History. Charlize Theron was among the executive producers on that project.

Peter Berg’s Bloodlines from Universal; The Sixth Gun, based on the Oni Press comic book about a girl caught in an Old West struggle; and The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives, based on a Josie Brown novel and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television will also not be taken forward.

In comedy, The Gates, looking at the relationships between parents who drop their kids off at school each day; Holding Patterns, focusing on a group of friends who survive a plane crash; and relationship series Joe & Joe & Jane have all been passed over.
