Nazi, Plague docs spread around the world

The Great Plague was made for Channel 5

Buyers including SBS in Australia, DR in Denmark and NRK in Norway have picked up history documentaries from Tinopolis-owned UK distributor Passion Distribution.

The three pubcasters have all acquired feature doc Nuremberg: The Nazis on Trial (1×90’), which has also been bought by Histoire (France), Channel 8 (Israel) and streaming platform Viasat (CEE and Scandinavia).

The film uses archive footage to recreate the post-Second World War trials and was produced by the UK’s Middlechild Productions for ViacomCBS-owned UK terrestrial Channel 5.

Also produced for C5, miniseries The Great Plague (3×60’) tries to recreate what it was like living during the Great Plague of London from 1665 to 1666. It has been picked up by DR, NRK, SBS, Viasat, Finnish pubcaster  YLE, Swedish channel Axess TV and North American streamer BBC Select. The show is produced by Voltage TV and WPP-owned Motion Content Group.

1000 Years of History, again made for C5, focuses on the history of different countries across its six episodes. Discovery Networks Asia Pacific has taken the episodes focusing on China (1×120’ or 2×60’), SBS has picked up the Russian and Scottish episodes (both 1×120’ or 2×60’), and South Korea’s Aceonemedia has picked up the entire series.

Moving away from history content, Storming the Capitol: The Inside Story (1×45’) has been acquired by streamer Discovery+ for Europe and India, RTL-owned free channel N-TV (Germany and German-speaking Austria and Switzerland), ORF (Austria), RTS (French-speaking Switzerland) and TVN (Poland).

The one-off doc tells the story of the Capitol Hill attacks in the wake of Joe Biden’s confirmation as US president in January. The special was produced by ITN Productions for the UK’s ITV.

Docuseries Future Warfare (4×60’), produced by Australia’s Wildbear Entertainment, examines the technology that is changing warfare. The series has been acquired by National Geographic Channel (Poland), Ananey Channels (Israel), AMC Networks Central Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia), Transmet (China) and Discovery Networks Asia Pacific (Japan and Taiwan).

Finally, Beyond Our Earth (6×60’), also from Wildbear, looks at humanity’s efforts to conquer space and the possibilities of doing so in the future. Pubcaster UR (Sweden), AMC Networks Central Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia), Kan (Israel), BBC Studios (Poland), Discovery Networks Asia Pacific (Japan) and Phoenix Television (South-East Asia) have licensed the series.
