Nat Geo to celebrate nature’s misfits with Ryan Reynolds docuseries Underdogs

Underdogs debuts on Nat Geo and Disney+ in June

Disney-owned factual brand National Geographic has ordered wildlife documentary series Underdogs, narrated and produced by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool).

The actor’s production banner, Maximum Effort, is making the five-part series alongside Fremantle-owned factual prodco Wildstar Films.

It is scheduled to premiere on Nat Geo and stream on Disney+ from June 16.

Underdogs gets up close and personal with the outcasts of the animal kingdom, detailing their hidden talents, unconventional hygiene habits and weird courtship rituals.

Animals featured include fungus gnats, giant-nosed proboscis monkeys and pistol shrimps.

Composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek) provides the music, while punk band Green Day contribute the theme song, Saviours.

Reynolds said: “Getting to work with National Geographic on Underdogs was a dream come true – mostly because I can finally watch a project of ours with my children.”
