Murphy becomes latest to leave C4

Channel 4’s head of features and factual entertainment Sue Murphy has become the latest senior programming executive to leave the UK broadcaster.

Murphy will leave C4 after more than a decade to join All3Media-owned Optomen and One Potato Two Potato as creative director.

At C4, she has been responsible for shows including Embarrassing Bodies, How To Look Good Naked and Supersize vs Superskinny.

Her departure comes hot on the heels of drama chiefs Camilla Campbell and Robert Wulff-Cochrane, who are exiting to launch their own joint venture prodco together with ITV.

Other senior programming staff to have headed for the Horseferry Road door recently include head of daytime Helen Warner and long-serving documentaries chief Hamish Mykura. C4 commissioning editor for entertainment and comedy Darren Smith left last month for Shine.

Murphy has worked closely with Optomen and One Potato Two Potato on Gordon Ramsay’s shows, as far back as his first for C4 – Kitchen Nightmares, which began in 2004. Other collaborations include Heston’s Feast and Mary Portas: Secret Shopper.

In her new role, Murphy will take the lead on UK development for Optomen and One Potato.

“Sue is one of the best editorial brains in the business, she never accepts second best, and she expects everyone to share her total commitment to making each and every one of her shows as good as they can be,” said Optomen MD Pat Llewellyn. “I know that Sue will help ensure that our greatest hits are still to come.”
