MTG uncovers Hidden for Viaplay

Supernatural thriller Hidden is produced by Yellow Bird

Modern Times Group (MTG) in Sweden has acquireed fantasy thriller Hidden as its latest original series for Nordic streamer Viaplay.

The eight-part series is produced by Banijay-owned Swedish prodco Yellow Bird in co-operation with Tele München Group, Benelux’s Lumière and distributor Banijay Rights.

Supernatural thriller Hidden (Eldmärkt) is based on Swedish actor and author Filip Alexanderson’s novel Förstfödd (Firstborn). Jonathan Sjöberg (Black Lake) is attached to direct and also serves as co-writer with Björn Paqualin (Hassel).

The series will premiere on Viaplay in 2018 before airing on TV3 in Sweden. Banijay Rights handles global distribution.

“Our next original series reimagines the global urban fantasy phenomenon in a uniquely Nordic way,” said Jakob Mejlhede, MTG’s executive VP and head of programming and content development. “Hidden blends the paranormal with hard-hitting realism and psychological drama – it’s like seeing Stockholm in a weird fairground mirror.”

The announcement swiftly follows that of Viaplay’s order for crime series Wisting, produced by Norway’s Cinenord Drama and Denmark’s Good Company Films with MTG Studios.
