Movistar to offer Disney+ in Spain

Disney+ offers Lucasfilm’s Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian

The Walt Disney Company in Iberia and Spanish telco Telefónica have agreed a deal making pay TV platform Movistar the strategic distributor for Disney+ in Spain.

Movistar will offer the new streaming service, which features content from brands such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic and launches in Spain and other parts of Europe later this month.

The partnership builds on existing agreements between Telefónica and Disney in the Spanish market.

“Disney+ enriches the experience of Movistar customers, with exceptional storytelling from five incredible Disney brands. This agreement reinforces our strategy of always offering our customers the best original content,” said Emilio Gayo, CEO of Telefónica Spain.

Jan Koeppen, president of The Walt Disney Company EMEA, added: “This marks an exciting new era of entertainment featuring premium content across our portfolio of brands and we can’t wait for Movistar customers to experience it.”

The streaming service, currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico, launches in the UK, as well as Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Switzerland, on March 24.

Additional Western European markets, including Belgium, the Nordics and Portugal, will follow this summer.
