Movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits set for 2025 release on Netflix

Animated movie The Twits

Netflix’s animated film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book The Twits is set to be released in 2025, the streaming giant said yesterday.

The project, written and directed by Phil Johnston (Ralph Breaks the Internet, Zootopia) marks the first time the book has been adapted for the screen.

It is also the first Dahl adaptation since Netflix acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company two years ago, giving it the rights to characters from the British author’s catalogue including Matilda, The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, Willy Wonka and The Twits.

In addition, the streamer is developing a live-action short film based on The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, written and directed by Wes Anderson, and an animated version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Twits’ adaptation is co-directed by Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong, and written by Johnston alongside Meg Favreau.

Animation comes from Jellyfish Pictures (The Boss Baby, The Bad Guys). It is produced by Phil Johnston and Maggie Malone and coproduced by Daisy West.

The Twits follows Mr and Mrs Twit, a mean and nasty couple who own the disgusting and dangerous amusement park Twitlandia. As their power begins to grow, two brave orphans and a family of magical animals team up in order to save the city from The Twits.
