Montreal’s HG Distribution targets Latin America, starting with MipCancun

Quebec distributor HG Distribution (HGD) is targeting the Latin American market, after refocusing the remit of business development manager Andrea Staerke.

The Montreal-based company said it is “investing in its sales structure” and has retained the services of senior business development exec Staerke to focus on the Lat Am market.

Staerke will be at MipCancun in Mexico this week with this new remit, alongside the rest of the HGD team. The company is also marking its 15th anniversary at the event.

The former Bomanbridge Media and Kosakowski Films exec has opened up the German market for HGD over the past eight years, securing numerous sales of documentaries to ZDF, most recently feature doc Earth: Seen from the Heart (1×90’) and series Sex School (5×20’) and Cosplay Culture (2×45’).

As well as docs, HGD has made a move into drama in recent months. New scripted teen titles include sci-fi thriller 422 (25×30’), shortform web series Off (16×8’ & 1×50’) and road trip thriller Just the Two of Us (8×7’ & 8×12’).

Regarding the new focus on Latin America, HGD’s CEO Henry Gagnon said: “After almost two years of virtual meetings, HG Distribution has decided to invest in what makes it different: personal service, and the presence of its entire team meeting all their Latin American clients and future clients live. This will definitely make a difference.

“There has been a growing demand for coproduction ventures and more and more [Quebecois] producers are getting in touch with Latin American producers to find a way to unite and book their production budgets. As for readymade sales, we will answer the growing demand for good quality content.”
