Millionaire to air in Chile, Peru and Argentina

MIP NEWS – ECM Europe, the official licensee for Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in Latin America and Asia, has concluded a deal with Chilean broadcaster Channel 13 for Quien Quiere ser Millonario, the local version of the format.

It which will begin broadcasting on April 5, 2001.

The Chilean show will be hosted by renowned Chilean presenter Don Francisco, whose weekly show Sabado Gigante (Giant Saturday) has been the best known pan-Latin American variety show for almost 40 years. Quien Ser Millonario will air weekly in primetime.

The Chilean deal brings the total number of shows sold by ECM on behalf of Celador to 11 in Latin America and Asia in just 18 months.

ECM has also signed a deal in Argentina. A local version of Millionaire will launch on Artear, the second largest commercial broadcaster in May. The station has contracted Julian Weich to host Who Wants to be a Millionaire? who recently completed a successful run with Survivor for the same channel.

ECM has also concluded its first deal in Peru with broadcaster Red Global. Millioanaire is due to launch in June 2001, with a top prize of 1 million Nuevos Soles, equivalent to US$280,000.

Millionaire is currently on air in Venezuela and Colombia.
