CONTENT AMERICAS: Mike Cosentino’s CosMedia is expanding its focus into new markets with the launch of a Latin American distribution arm.

The Toronto-based media company, launched in 2021 by the former Bell Media content and programming chief, has inked a deal with Montreal-headquartered producer-distributor Incendo to represent its movie catalogue to Latin American buyers.

Through the partnership, CosMedia will represent film titles spanning romantic comedies and dramas to action movies and high-stakes thrillers. The slate of titles includes Incendo’s 2021 romantic comedy Be Mine, Valentine.

Cosentino announced the news from C21’s inaugural Content Americas, which kicked off yesterday and runs through Thursday.

When CosMedia launched in August 2021, the first deal announced was a distribution agreement with Fremantle to source, support and deliver Canadian productions to global audiences.

More recently, CosMedia, which also operates in a consulting capacity, was brought on by Viaplay to provide high-level intel regarding the Nordic streamer’s planned launch in Canada.

Last week, Viaplay inked a deal with Bell Media’s Crave to launch Select via the Canadian streaming service. Viaplay will have a full direct-to-consumer launch in Canada later in the year.

“Canadian producers like Incendo are behind some of the most watched movies commissioned for TV audiences in the US and abroad, and our goal is to create partnerships and a pipeline to deliver best-in-class titles with expert localisation to audiences across Latin America,” said Cosentino, president CosMedia.

Brook Peters, MD and senior VP of sales and production operations, Incendo, added: “Having collaborated with Mike in various areas of our business for many years, Incendo is delighted to partner with CosMedia and have our content brands expanded into the lucrative Latin American market.”
