Mike Cavanagh promoted to co-CEO of Comcast alongside Brian Roberts

US media and telecommunications giant Comcast is promoting president Mike Cavanagh to co-CEO alongside Brian Roberts, effective from January 2026.

Mike Cavanagh

Cavanagh joined the company as chief financial officer in 2015 and was promoted to president of Comcast in 2022. The following year, his role expanded to include president of NBCUniversal following the departure of Jeff Shell.

With Cavanagh’s upcoming promotion, longtime Comcast leader Brian Roberts will continue to serve as chairman and co-CEO.

Before joining Comcast, Cavanagh worked in financial services, including roles as co-CEO of JPMorgan Chase’s Corporate & Investment Bank, as well as chief financial officer of JPMorgan Chase.

The move would appear to position Cavanagh, 59, as the corporate successor to Roberts, 66. Comcast, though, is owned by the Roberts family and was founded by Brian Roberts’ father Ralph Roberts in 1963.

“Since joining Comcast a decade ago, Mike has proven himself to be a trusted and collaborative leader,” said Roberts.

“He is the ideal person to help lead Comcast as we manage the pivot we are making to drive growth across the company. Mike and I work seamlessly together, and I am thrilled to be partnering with him as Co-CEO and with the rest of our talented management team, for years to come.”

“Comcast is a special company with exceptional businesses and an incredible team. It is an honor to work with Brian and the entire Comcast NBCUniversal leadership team during this exciting and transformative time in our industry,” said Cavanagh.
