MHz heads for East West 101

US pubcaster MHz Networks has acquired all three seasons of hard hitting Australian drama East West 101.

The show’s distributor, UK-based Target Entertainment, has also sold the show to Australian pubcaster ABC for its Asia Pacific service and season three to TVO in Canada.

The MHz deal comprises three 20×60’ seasons of the Knapman Wyld Television-produced show, which Australian pubcaster SBS originally commissioned. “Securing a US broadcast deal is a significant step in taking the show global,” said Target’s director of sales Hannah Worrall.

Season one of the show debuts on Arte in Germany and France this coming April. The series explores the ramifications of the US-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through crimes committed in Australia.

Target has announced a number of new sales this year after parent Metrodome Group warned the distributor’s performance would “materially” damage annual profits due to tough trading conditions, especially in the fourth quarter of 2011.
