MGM+ orders original crime drama The Westies from Chris Brancato, Michael Panes

Linear channel and streaming service MGM+ has ordered original crime drama series The Westies from creator, showrunner and exec producer Chris Brancato.

Under his overall TV deal with MGM+, Brancato created the eight-episode series with Michael Panes.

Set in the early 1980s, The Westies centres on New York City’s infamously violent Irish gang of the same name and its conflict with the Italian Mafia.

The crime drama will go into production in Toronto in July and premiere on MGM+ in the US, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will distribute the series in all other territories.
