MGM goes D2C in South Africa

MGM’s new SVoD service in South Africa will offer The Handmaid’s Tale

US studio MGM has launched a new film and TV SVoD service through South African mobile operator Vodacom.

The streamer, titled simply MGM, represents the studio’s first foray into the region with its own branded entertainment offering.

It will be part of Vodacom’s Video Play Premium service and will also be available as a standalone, a la carte subscription Micro Pass priced at R59 (US$3.31) a month.

The service offers titles including The Hobbit, Legally Blonde, The Pink Panther, The Handmaid’s Tale, Get Shorty and Teen Wolf.

A subscription to Vodacom’s Video Play Premium service, which includes international and local movies, TV series, music and kids programming, costs R99 per month.
