Mexico’s TV Azteca reboots Fremantle gameshow Password after 10-year break

TV Azteca is bringing back gameshow format Password

Mexican channel TV Azteca is to adapt Fremantle gameshow format Password, marking its return to the territory after a 10-year hiatus.

The new show will be presented by Lola Cortés and coproduced by TV Azteca and Fremantle.

Last year a reboot of the format was announced in Spain through Atresmedia following a successful revival on NBC in the US with Jimmy Fallon and Keke Palmer. The latter was the most popular unscripted premiere of the summer in the country.

Password sees teams of celebrities and contestants guess a password using a single word as a clue.

The Mexican version will have three games: Hand in Hand, The Password and The Money Ladder. In the first two, participants will have to guess the greatest number of secret words using clues against the clock. Depending on the points earned, only one of the participants will be able to reach The Money Ladder, where each level passed will accumulate a certain amount.

The format originated in the US in the 1960s and has been adapted internationally a number of times, including in Australia, Brazil, Germany and the UK.
