Melanie Rumani oversees a team of 14 people who acquire content for 37 different services across the globe, including BBC Earth, BBC Brit and BBC First outside of the UK and Dave, Drama, Alibi and W in the UK.

Having taken up the newly created role of global head of acquisitions for both BBC Studios and UKTV in 2020, Rumani and her team procure tens of thousands of hours annually from key indie distributors, US studios and producers around the word, from finished productions to pre-sales.

They have been making the most of the programming crossover between UKTV and BBC Studios channels, from shared scripted fare for UKTV’s Alibi and Drama and BBC First to factual titles for UKTV channels Dave, W and Yesterday and BBC pair Earth and Eden.

Rumani spoke to C21FM about the programming that’s working well on the channels, both at home and abroad, and how streaming service UKTV Play is opening up opportunities for her team to acquire different kinds of content.

C21FM is live 24/7, with a block of interviews starting at 10am BST every day HERE.
