Mediawan forms Spanish production hub

Paris-based independent media group Mediawan is launching a production hub in Spain, following its acquisition of Lagardère Studios and Spanish prodco Good Mood.

Mediawan Studios Spain will comprise three production companies, including Grupo Boomerang, the Spanish subsidiary of Lagardère Studios.

The other two prodcos are indie Good Mood, which Mediawan acquired in June, and Weekend Studio, in which Mediawan has a minority stake.

The Spanish hub will be led by Monica Galer, who has been a member of Mediawan’s supervisory board since November last year.

Mediawan said it plans to reinforce synergies between its production companies across Europe in terms of coproduction and co-distribution, and to build on the relationships of the prodcos with local broadcasters.

“The creativity and dynamism of the Spanish production market is impressive, as well as the quality and know-how of its producers. This hub is opening key opportunities for the group, not only in the booming Spanish market but in all Spanish-speaking regions,” said Pierre-Antoine Capton, chairman of Mediawan.

“We are eager to start working with Grupo Boomerang and Weekend Studio and welcome them into the group, as we have with Good Mood in the last few months.”
