Mediaset Spain and Bambú Producciones’ romantic drama La Favorita 1922 pre-sold into Europe, the Americas

Period drama La Favorita 1922

Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group agreed pre-orders for drama series La Favorita 1922 in more than 20 territories across Europe and the Americas ahead of its premiere on Telecinco this week.

The romantic period drama marks the first collaboration between Mediaset Spain and Spanish production company Bambú Producciones, whose titles include Gran Hotel, Velvet and Las Chicas del Cable.

Among the markets that have acquired La Favorita 1922 are Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, on Telecom Argentina’s TV and streaming service Flow; the US and Canada, on streaming platform Walter Presents via PBS; Belgium, on Proximus; and Lithuania, on pubcaster Lithuanian National Radio and TV.

Silvia Cotino, deputy director of sales and business development at Mediterráneo, said: “This series perfectly complements our current offering, as we didn’t have a period drama. Furthermore, the fact that it’s a Bambú production, with its renowned seal of quality, excited us from the start. We’re confident it will be a key addition to our catalogue, further strengthening our presence in the international market.”

With Verónica Sánchez and Luis Fernández leading the cast, the drama is the brainchild of Ramón Campos, Gema R Neira, Paula Fernández and Curro Serrano. Mikel Alvariño and Luis Gamboa complete the scriptwriting team and Josep Cister Rubio is the executive producer.

The story follows the Marchioness Elena de Valmonte, who is trapped in an unhappy marriage and finds refuge in the kitchen. After a life-changing incident, she flees to Madrid with her maid Cecilia and decides to reopen an old restaurant, La Favorita Bistró, with the help of a team of women and the mysterious Julio.
