Mediaset shops thriller, medical drama

Il Silenzio dell’Aqua (The Silence of Water) debuted on Canale 5

The distribution arm of Italian broadcaster Mediaset is heading to MipTV in Cannes next month with a programme slate topped by a mystery thriller and medical drama.

Il Silenzio dell’Aqua (The Silence of Water) is produced by Vela Film and RTI and premiered in Italy on Canale 5 on March 8, pulling in nearly four million viewers and a 15.3% audience share.

The 8×50’ series begins with the disappearance of an adolescent girl in a small village and follows the investigation into the hidden truths behind the case.

Hospital procedural Doctor Giò, meanwhile, follows a gynaecologist who returns to her hospital following a suspension and lawsuit instigated against her by the influential head of the hospital.

Originally broadcast for two seasons in 1997 and 1998, an 8×50’ revival recently aired on Canale 5 in primetime.

In unscripted formats, Mediaset is launching Race for Real, which aired on Italia 1 and sees three contestants facing different adrenalin tests to win their place in the prestigious Porsche Carrera Race.

An alliance with MGE, distribution arm of Chilean broadcaster Mega, signed in mid-2018, is also bringing a catalogue of Chilean telenovelas to Cannes.
