Mediaset España tests The Wisdom of the Crowd as BBCS preps Mipcom launch

Mediaset España in Spain has acquired new BBC quizshow format The Wisdom of the Crowd ahead of the show’s launch at Mipcom.

The Spanish version will be produced by Brutal Media, part of BBC Studios Global Production for Telecinco.

From the same creative team that devised The 1% Club, Wisdom of the Crowd was commissioned by the BBC in the UK.

Each episode sees individual contestants face a group of 200 people in the studio, all trying to answer unique number-based questions. But do they have what it takes to beat the average guess of the crowd?

Magnum Productions created the quiz based on the theory of crowd wisdom by scientist Francis Galton, who in the early 20th century demonstrated that the average of a group’s answers to a specific question tends to be more accurate than that of any individual member.

It will air on BBC One in the UK with a transmission date to be announced. It will air in primetime on Telecinco in Spain next season.

The format is the latest to join the range of quiz and gameshows in BBC Studios’ portfolio. It sits alongside The 1% Club, also from Magnum, which now airs in 12 territories, as well as The Weakest Link, Nation’s Dumbest, Silence is Golden, Bridge of Lies and the recently announced The Inner Circle.
