The Mediapro Studio has named former Paramount international boss JC Acosta as head of its US and Canadian operation as the Spain-based company opens up a new North American headquarters in LA.

With the launch of the new office, revealed on Monday by CEO Laura Fernández Espeso, the company is looking to expand its pipeline of English-language content across scripted and unscripted series, entertainment formats, feature films and documentaries.
The LA office expands The Mediapro Studio’s footprint in North America, where it already has offices in Miami, New York and Toronto, in addition to a production facility at Great Point Studios in Yonkers New York. Globally, The Mediapro Studio’s parent company has more than 50 offices.
Acosta was formerly the president of Paramount’s International Networks and Streaming for Southern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa until his exit in late 2022. He was also the president of its global studios division, VIS, where he oversaw international operations across the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Israel, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, with responsibility for production studios, free-to-air and pay TV networks and third-party streamers and broadcasters.
While The Mediapro Studio has had a presence in the North American market for more than 20 years, the announcement marks a significant expansion of its ambitions in the English-language content space.
English-language shows previously produced and coproduced by the company include The Head, The Young Pope, Hunting Ava Bravo, A Perfect Day and Map of the Sounds of Tokyo.

“Grup Mediapro’s primary focus across all its divisions is the expansion into the US,” said Espeso. “Grup Mediapro has been in the US since 1998. Now, we want to go further, establishing the studio at the heart of the global audiovisual industry and welcoming JC Acosta as the head of The Mediapro Studio US/Canada.
“I’m thrilled to have JC on board. His brilliant career and broad experience are the perfect combination to lead our strategy here.”
Acosta added: “The Mediapro Studio has seen exceptional growth over the last several years and their success has been rooted in their mission and vision of content and talent first.
“The vast array of narratives and content produced globally are exceptional and have inspired me to take on this exciting new role. I’m thankful to Laura for her vision and entrusting me with this new venture to accelerate The Mediapro Studio’s position in the US/Canada.”
