Media Ranch drives Danish format Stung Bitten Burned into Netherlands, Belgium

Children’s factual format Stung Bitten Burned

Montreal-based producer-distributor Media Ranch has secured a pair of production deals for animal-based factual format Stung Bitten Burned, owned by the Danish Broadcasting Corp (DR).

The Canadian company has made a production deal with broadcaster NPO 3 in the Netherlands for the second season of the local version of the format. The 10-episode new season, to be produced by BNNVara, will air in spring 2022.

The Dutch deal comes soon after the format was picked up by Dutch-language TV channel Ketnet in Belgium, where 20 episodes of the Belgian kids’ series began airing on September 1 under the title Schijtluizen.

The format, created originally by Danish production company Made By Us for DR, sees the host experience stings, bites, burns and more from local animals such as bees, spiders, rats, ants and poisonous frogs.

Under a deal inked in 2018 and renewed earlier this year, Media Ranch has an exclusive agreement to represent DR’s unscripted formats catalogue globally.

“When we saw the original show, we instantly knew we had to do our own Ketnet adaptation. Children in Belgium love watching shows that are informative and engaging and at the same time a bit crazy. This show fits that bill spectacularly,” said Ketnet’s content manager Griet Langbeen in a statement.
